Principal’s Report to the Local School Council – 9/9/2020 | Informe del Director al Consilio Escolar Local (LSC)

Purpose: To provide updates at Kelvyn Park High School from Instruction, Culture & Climate, Parents & Community, and Operations lenses to provide the LSC with a holistic understanding of the organizational improvement efforts.

Instruction:

  • As a reminder, Chicago Public Schools officials notified us that we now have a Fine & Performing Arts Program at Kelvyn Park! The LSC has received an email letter about this news. Here’s what this means for us:
    • SY21 – Year 0, “Incubation” or planning year.
    • SY22 through SY24 – Years 1-3, “Implementation” years
    • SY25+ – Year 4 and beyond, “Sustainability” years
  • All of SY21 will be devoted to what’s considered an “Incubation Year” (here is a link to the Incubation Handbook) where teachers plan for Arts Integration in their curriculum to implement for SY22. Please see the full Arts Integration plan at the link.
  • To help with our transition, teachers are engaging in a yearlong professional learning plan where they will become familiar with the Illinois Arts Learning Standards by co-designing, co-delivering, showcasing, and reflecting on two Arts Infused Projects by the end of the year.

Culture & Climate:

  • All students received an email on Friday, 9/4 with their class schedules and the times of their classes for the entire week. The schedule included:
    • Period
    • Time (because Wednesdays we have a different time schedule)
    • Teacher name
    • Teacher email
    • Later this week, we will also add Google Classroom codes specific to each students’ classes in these same emailed schedules.
  • The Attendance Team is focused on parent outreach to get students engaged with Remote Learning. They will strategically develop individualized plans to contact families, ensure their technological needs are met, and students can access their remote classes.

Parents & Community:

  • One of our goals this year is to get 100% accurate information for parents, especially parent emails. Given most communication needs to occur remotely, we will work very hard to get working email addresses from all parents/guardians.
  • The best location for news from the school is under the “News & Updates” page on our website: kphermosa.org. Please communicate this to all parents!
  • LSC nominations have reopened! Any person who would like to serve on the next LSC needs to complete the following steps:
    • Complete the necessary election forms.  Election forms can be picked up at the main office at Kelvyn Park or can be found online. The following are the forms that need to be completed by October 2, 2020 at 3:00 pm.

    • Bring the completed form to the Kelvyn Park main office along with two pieces of acceptable identification by 3:00 pm on October 2, 2020.
